Teacher/Certified Athletic Trainer
I grew up in Garnett, KS, a town very similar to Tonganoxie, just much further from the convenience of the big city! After high school, I attended Kansas State University and was a member of the track and field team.
In 2001, I enrolled in graduate school at Emporia State University. While working as a graduate assistant I earned a Master's degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation. I also became a nationally certified athletic trainer (AT).
After working for a few years in a physical therapy clinic, and Haskell Indian Nations University, as an AT, my family moved to Tonganoxie. I have worked as the athletic trainer for USD 464 since 2005. In 2007, I returned to the classroom and took over the "at-risk" program. Since joining the faculty at THS I have taught Care of Athletes, Emergency Medical Response, English 10, Creative Writing, and helped begin the Tonganoxie Learning Center (TLC).
I am an approved clinical instructor for the athletic training educational program at the University of Kansas and also the University of St. Mary. This gives collegiate students the opportunity to gain exposure to athletic training in the secondary school setting as well as gain some hands-on experience.
Outside of my duties affiliated with THS, I am active in the Kansas Athletic Trainers' Society. I served on the executive board from 2008-2020 and spent 2015-2018 as the president. I am also active in the National Athletic Trainers' Association. I was elected to a national committee in 2017, and served until 2020.
Beyond this, I am also a medical spotter for the National Football League, and a Football Medical Observer for the Big 12 Conference.
My family and I live in Tonganoxie. My wife is the middle school counselor, and we have two daughters.
